Mrs. Hudson's Olympic Triumph
By Barry S. Brown
2017, MX Publishing
It is 1896 and the first Olympiad in more than 2000 years is about to be held. Accompanied by Watson and Mrs. Hudson, Holmes will travel to Athens to compete in foils as a member of Great Britain's fencing team. But the trip is more than just fun and games. The Baker Street trio are, in fact, engaged in a delicate bit of covert activity on behalf of Queen and country. A courier, dispatched by the Dowager Queen of Germany, is to pass a letter to Holmes for transmission to her mother, Queen Victoria. Peace between the two nations may depend on the contents of that letter. They arrive to find the courier murdered together with the wife of the Ambassador. Both the letter and the Ambassador have disappeared. They find, too, that Inspector Lestrade is already in Athens investigating the sale of fake antiquities to the wife of the Ambassador. Mrs. Hudson and her colleagues have the ten days of the Olympiad to recover the critical letter, capture a double murderer, and discover the secret behind the scheme to pass off copies of Greek antiquities as genuine—all while Holmes seeks to dispatch his competition and earn an Olympic medal.
